'Electric light is pure information'
My work is an engagement with multiple collage processes, encompassing diverse approaches to the selection, extraction and reconstruction of found photographic imagery. Starting from an initial interest in the juxtaposition between images and becoming increasingly concerned with examining a unifying framework of composition, I use colour, tone, perspective and depth as guides in creating reconstructed environments which have a physical logic of their own.
My approach to collage is a process based method of seeking and collecting material from a variety of sources and organising these images in an intuitive way. Thematically the collaged environments produced by this process are suggestive of the source material; visual fragments from cheap and obsolete encyclopaedias and reference books, composed in an attempt to resolve a structural and textural balance, to create an observation on our relationship with technology and digital perception, and to build environments which allude to a world of pure information.
