Tower (after Breughel)

 

This is a time lapse of one of my collages in process, which I made in response to Pieter Breughel's 'Tower of Babel'. The masonic symbolism of this painting has fascinated me for a long time and I was attracted to the layered depth of the painting. Breughels approach to the physical structure of the tower is a portrait of a work in progress, symbolising a struggle with construction which mirrors this approach to the collage process. Always unsteady, fragmented and on the verge of collapse...
